Crossbar and upright must be welded together. Gussets recommended where pipes are welded together. Crossbar and upright to be welded (preferred) or bolted, min. ˝” diameter grade 5 bolts and 4” square sandwich plates, to both the roof and floor pan. All welds to be of good quality and must be as complete as possible. NO tack welds! Round pipe/tubing only, NO square tubing. See diagrams for roll bar/upright info. A full cage may also be used if approved by Hornet Tech. and may not be used to stiffen the car. No cage structure to extend forward of the engine firewall. Cage material may be smaller than the minimum roll bar requirements depending on type of material used. Proof of material used may be required and is the responsibility of the driver to provide. Roll Bar
The single hoop roll bar made of 2” outside diameter steel pipe with an
additional bar between the two verticals. This additional bar should be
below the drivers’ shoulder level to allow proper mounting of 5” harness.
On the bottom of each vertical there must be welded a 4” x 4” square steel
plate for mounting to the floor. If you are bolting the roll bar in and not
welding it, there needs to be a similar 4” x 4” steel plate under the floor for strength.
The cross brace style is also made of 2” outside diameter steel pipe. It consists of a pipe with 4” x 4” steel mounting plates welded on each end and bolted, side to side, through the body behind the drivers’ seat. An additional vertical upright, with 4’ x 4” steel mounting plates welded to each end, is welded to the cross brace behind the drivers’ seat. If this upright is bolted, not welded, to the sheet metal top and bottom there needs to be corresponding 4” x 4” steel “sandwich” plates for strength.
